If you own a Mk8 Golf, you’ll know it comes with a basic manual bonnet prop rather than a gas strut. It’s the sort of thing that feels like an oversight from the factory. This Racingline conversion kit fixes that, giving your bonnet a proper gas strut that lifts and holds it open on its own – just as it should have been from new.

What it does

A gas strut is a pressurised support that takes the weight of the bonnet, lifting it smoothly and holding it in place. Instead of fiddling with a flimsy prop rod every time you check your oil or work in the engine bay, the bonnet simply rises and stays put.

Racingline spent time getting the specification right. The strut is set to the correct length and pressure for the Mk8 Golf bonnet, so it opens and closes with a sensible amount of resistance. It won’t fly up too fast or feel too heavy to close.

Important fitting note

Once the strut is fitted, rotate the coolant hose very slightly to make sure it does not rub against the strut. This is a quick step but an important one. Please refer to the supplied fitting guide for full details.

Fitment

This kit is designed specifically for the Mk8 and Mk8.5 Golf petrol models only. It will not fit any other model or diesel variants.
